Assume that the hypothetical reaction for fixing nitrogen biologically is N 2 g + 3 H 2 O l 2 N H 3 a q + 3 2 O 2 g

  1. Calculate the standard enthalpy change for the biosynthetic fixation of nitrogen at T = 298 K . For N H 3 a q , ammonia dissolved in aqueous solution, Δ H f ° = 80.3 k J m o l 1

  3. Calculate the standard enthalpy change for the synthesis of glycine from ammonia. For glycine, Δ H f ° = 537.2 k J m o l 1 . Assume T = 298 K .
  4. Calculate the standard enthalpy change for the synthesis of glycine from nitrogen, oxygen, and methane.
