Concept explainers
After draining gear oil from a transaxie, the technician notices that the oil has shiny, metallic particles in it. What does this indicate?
The condition it indicates if a shiny, metallic particle is draining oil from a transaxle.
Answer to Problem 1SA
It indicates the condition of excessive wear.
Explanation of Solution
Proper lubrication is required for longer transmission/transaxle life. The lubrication gear oil should be checked and replaced after required specified intervals of time. The condition of the draining oil gives a lot of indication about the parts and components of the transmission/transaxle. Thus, while draining the gear oil if it has some golden or shiny metallic particles in it, this indicates extensive internal wear or damage in the parts of a transaxle.
