Answer to Problem 13RQ

The period when Laurasia merged with Gondwanaland to form Pangaea was Carboniferous Period.

Explanation of Solution

During the time of the Carboniferous period, Laurasia and Gondwanaland began to move toward each other. The collision between these two landmasses resulted in the creation of the supercontinent known as Pangaea. The collision also resulted in the formation of great mountains like the Appalachian Mountains, the Hercynian Mountains, and the Caledonian mountain. Near the South Pole, most of the Gondwanaland was located, and the land of Laurasia was located at the North Pole. Laurasia is the place of northern Asia on the earth, which is the two minors' supercontinent. It merged with the Gondwanaland from approximately about 425 million years ago to form Pangaea.

Conclusion:

Therefore, the period when Laurasia merged with Gondwanaland to form Pangaea was Carboniferous Period.
