Chapter 20, Problem 2MC
Summary Introduction
Introduction:
The only genus of gram-negative cocci causing significant diseases is Neisseria. The bacteria included in the “genus Neisseria” have an antigen called lipooligosaccharide in their cell walls, which contains molecules of sugar and “Lipid A”; both of which help the bacteria to attach to the host cell in humans and infect it. Neisseria causes diseases like gonorrhea and meningitis. Neisseria cells are not motile and they appear round in shape and flat on sides.
