Given:

Depth of the barge = 1.5m

Formula used:

The pressure is,

  P=ρgh .

Here, ρ the density of the water, g is the acceleration due to gravity, and h is the height of the hole below the fresh water.

Calculation:

Substitute 1000kg/m3 for ρ , 9.8 m/s² for g, and 1.5m for h .

  P=(1000kg/m3)(9.8m/s2)(1.5m)=14700kg/ms2

Also, the pressure is

  P=FA

Here, A is the area of the hole.

Rearrange the equation for F .

  F=PA

Substitute 14700kg/ms2 for P and 12cm2 for A .

  F=(14700kg/ms2)(12cm2)=(14700kg/ms2)(12cm2)(1m100cm)2=(17.64kgm/s2)(1Nkgm/s2)18N
