Why will a volleyball held beneath the surface of water have more buoyant force than if it is floating?
To explain: The reason for more buoyant force of a volleyball that is held beneath the surface of water in comparison to floating ball.
Explanation of Solution
Introduction:
Buoyant force is the force that exerts in upward motion by the fluid which will oppose the weight of the object. So, when the object is completely submerged, the amount of the fluid displaced will be equal to the weight of a displacing object.
When the weight of the ball and water is compared, then the weight of the water will be large. So the buoyant force that is acting on the ball will also be larger. Thus, when the ball is under the water, the volume of the fluid displaced is much greater than the density of the volleyball which increases its buoyant force
