Chapter 18.1, Problem 1TQ
Summary Introduction
To review:
The taxonomic questions raised by the apparently high rate of gene transfer between archaea and thermophilic bacteria
Introduction:
Horizontal gene transfer along with homology-dependent recombination is very important to disclose the exchange of genetic data. Through binary fission, the bacteria, as well as archaea, propagate. Unlike in the reproduction of complex eukaryotes, cell fusion and recombination are not essential steps in their reproduction. Early models mostly focused on periodic selection as well as clonality.
