Question
Chapter 17.2, Problem 7MC
Summary Introduction
To compare and contrast:
The three types of horizontal gene transfer.
Concept introduction:
All organisms including humans, bacteria and archaea transmit their genetic material (DNA) from one generation to another as they reproduce, a process called vertical gene transfer. In addition to this, the bacteria and archaea can also acquire DNA from unrelated donor, a process called horizontal gene transfer (HGT). The HGT is mainly responsible for antibiotic resistance in bacteria.
