Chapter 14.2, Problem 25LC
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: To describe the reason why scientists cannot collect temperature and volume data for enclosed gas at temperatures near absolute zero.

Concept Introduction: The Kelvin temperature scale, which defines absolute zero as the temperature during which molecular energy has reached its lowest, is the most widely used absolute scale.

Answer to Problem 25LC

Scientists cannot collect temperature and volume data for enclosed gas at temperatures near absolute zero because the gas particles get slower and more attracted to one another as the temperature gets closer to absolute zero.

Explanation of Solution

Bose-Einstein Condensation occurs at this stage while operating with temperatures very near to absolute zero.

It is impossible to collect accurate volume and temperature data under this circumstance. This phenomenon is caused by temperature decline or changes in the physical states of matter, such as when a liquid goes from a liquid to a solid and vice versa. As a result, the solid's particles become increasingly more unified.

So, gas particles get slower and more attracted to one another as the temperature gets closer to absolute zero that’s why Scientists cannot collect temperature and volume data for enclosed gas at temperatures near absolute zero.
