Interpretation: To determine how increases the pressure of a gas in a closed container.
Concept Introduction: Ideal gas gave a relation between pressure, temperature and volume. It can be represented as
Answer to Problem 5STP
(b )
Explanation of Solution
As per the ideal gas equation,
According to an ideal gas, it can be observed that by increasing pressure, the temperature will increase, and the volume will decrease.
Therefore, pressure can be increased in two ways and those are:
(a)Container size decreased. (Boyles law)
(b)Temperature is increased. (Charles law)
When part of the gas is removed, pressure cannot be increased. By removing the gas, the frequency at which molecules collide with the wall decrease. This results in a decrease in pressure.
