Where

P is pressure of the gas

V is volume of the gas

n is the number of moles of the gas

R is the ideal gas constant

T is the temperature of the gas

Explanation of Solution

Ideal gas equation helps to calculate volume of a gas at given temperature and pressure. According to this law,

PV=nRT

Or

P1V1n1T1=P2V2n2T2

n2n1=P2V2T1P1V1T2

According to the statement:

P1=PP2=PV1=VV2=VT1=200KT2=400K

Now substituting the values into formula,

n2n1=P2V2T1P1V1T2=P×V×200P×V×400=12

Therefore the number of moles of gas will reduce to half of its initial value.

Conclusion

On doubling the temperature of the gas and keeping the temperature and pressure, the number of moles of gas would reduce to half of its initial value.
