Concept explainers
(a)
Interpretation:
The volume of given moles of propane is to be calculated.
Concept introduction:
The volume of propane is
According to Avogadro’s Law, equal numbers of molecules of all gases occupy 22.4 liters volume at STP.
(b)
Interpretation:
The reason for the propane gas to get liquefied before transportation needs to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Liquids occupy less volume than gases.
Because on liquefaction, the volume occupied by the gas decreases.
To transport propane gas, large tanks are required. But if it is liquefied first then volume occupied is reduced. So, smaller tanks can be used to transport the gas.
