The variations in solubility of given alcohols in water are to be explained.
Concept introduction:
Alcohols have a good solubility in water. This solubility occurs due to hydroxyl groups that are present in alcohols. These hydroxyl groups form hydrogen bonds with the molecules of water.
The alcohols that have small hydrocarbon chain are more soluble in water as compared to alcohols having long hydrocarbon chain.
