Following mini-case scenarios involve ethical dilemmas associated with project
management. How would you respond to each situation, and why?
The Project Status Report Meeting
You are driving to a project status report meeting with your client. You encountered a significant technical
problem on the project that has put your project behind schedule. This is not good news because
completion time is the number one priority for the project. You are confident that your team can solve the
problem if they are free to give their undivided attention to it and that with hard work 2 you can get back
on schedule. You also believe if you tell the client about the problem, she will demand a meeting with
your team to discuss the implications of the problem. You can also expect her to send some of her
personnel to oversee the solution to the problem. These interruptions will likely further delay the project.
What should you tell your client about the current status of the project?

- If we don’t know our history, we are doomed to repeat it. Knowing an organisation’s past failures and successes are keys to smooth project management in the future. Unrealistic expectations are avoidable and colossal barriers to project success. So, how do we manage these expectations from the very beginning of a project before it’s too late? One of the best ways to determine realistic expectations for any project is to examine historical data (Taylor Putnam-Majarian, 2015) With reference to the above, explain Fact Based Decision Making and show why Fact-based management is regarded as a core project quality conceptarrow_forwardDepending on the findings, the project's goals may shift or new features may be added. Please provide specifics to help us grasp the distinctions between the two concepts. What do you believe the underlying issue is that's causing these two issues? - Discuss your response to your supervisor's question regarding the project status.arrow_forwardConsider a situation where an urgent IT project is nearing completion, and it is becoming clear to the Project Manager that many of the users of the new system are not pleased about the changes this will cause. Many attempts have been made to explain why the changes are necessary, but the users remain unconvinced – they feel the training has been inadequate, the new system is confusing, and their job descriptions appear to be significantly different as a result. The Project Manager has reported to the Project Steering Committee that resistance seems likely, and this will further delay full implementation at a time of urgency. It is decided that those users who engage with the new system and get through the urgent work will be offered a one-off bonus in their pay once the urgency has passed. Which one of the following best describes this change strategy? Normative-re-education approach Rational-empirical approach Environmental-adaptive approach…arrow_forwardIncreasing the project's scope or adding unnecessary features are both undesirable outcomes. Help your reader follow your reasoning by outlining the differences between the two ideas. Please elaborate on your reasoning for assuming that the same issue underlies both of these complaints. If these two things happened while working on this project, what type of disaster might it cause?arrow_forward
