Interpretation:

Functional group on sugars are more in number as compared to peptides, therefore increasing the information content of glycans. As given in the question, there are 3 amino acids A, B and C. A combination of these 3 amino acids can form several different tripeptides through permutation and combination methods. In case of sugars, as they have more functional groups to form bonds with, as compared to amino acids there can be a huge variety of trisaccharides. Trisaccharides show different branching patterns and different glycosidic bonds to form a new polysaccharide.

Concept introduction:

Here we are given 3 amino acids which can be arranged in different patterns making a different polypeptide each time. Each sequence is a new polypeptide. In the case of 3 sugars, they are capable of showing different glycosidic linkages between them which increases their variety of forming trisaccharides.
