Concept explainers
To determine:
Importance of hydrogen ion production.
Introduction :
Photosynthesis is the process by which synthesis of glucose takes place using carbon dioxide and water in presence of sunlight. It also requires the chlorophyll pigment which absorbs light energy in the form of photons.
Explanation of Solution
In the process of photosynthesis, the formation of the ATP requires protons. The protons here come from the hydrogen ions and they help in the conversion of the ADP to ATP molecules with the help of ATP synthase enzyme. Hence, hydrogen ion generation from water is an important process of photosynthesis.
