The ionization energy is the energy required to remove a valence electron from a gaseous atom. Metal is more reactive if it gives up its valence electrons more easily.
Ionization energy helps to explain the differences in the reactivities of metals.
Ionization energy increases with each successive removal of an electron as the positive charge on the ion increases.
