Chapter 6, Problem 32SAE
Summary Introduction

To review:

The muscle type, which is composed of elongated cells, and is present in the walls of urinary bladder.

Introduction:

The urinary bladder is a hollow organ, whose wall is composed of three coats. The mucosa forms the deepest layer, the muscularis is the middle layer, and the adventitia forms the superficial layer. The mucosa layer is further composed of a deep seated lamina propria and an overlying transitional epithelium.

Both the layers of mucosa, along with rugae, allow the urinary bladder to stretch when it is filled with urine. The muscularis layer is composed of smooth muscles, which have some spindle-shaped elongated muscle fibers. The smooth muscle cells are present in the walls of multiple internal organs like urinary bladder and gastrointestinal tract.
