Concept introduction: The principle of “competitive exclusion” given by Gause states that “two species with same ecological niche cannot coexist”. In other words, the two species that utilize the same limited resources cannot live together in an ecosystem. Overlapping food resources lead to competition between the species. The species that can better utilize the resources is able to eliminate the other species.

  • Two identical plots with sagebrush plants and annual wildflowers.
