Internet Protocol (IP) address:

• IP address is a number assigned to each computer in a network.
• Computer network uses Internet Protocol for communication.
• IP is a protocol used in the network layer of the internet model.
• It is used to route the packet through an optimal path in a network.
• IP performs addressing to find the next computer in an optimal path.
• Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) defines an IP address as 32 bits number.
• Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) defines an IP address as 128 bits number, which consists of 4 octets containing hexadecimal values.

Subnet:

• Subnet divides the network into logical pieces. This process is known as subnetting.
• Systems or computers can communicate directly with each other if they belong to the same subnet or subnetwork.
• The computers that are outside of a subnet can communicate with other computers only through routers.
