Question
Chapter 44.6, Problem 3EQ
Summary Introduction
To determine: The survival or reproductive advantages that may be provided to animals by the ability to sense thousands or more different types of odors.
Introduction: Odor is detected by brain by combination of different activated receptor proteins. Therefore, odor is discriminated by many different olfactory receptor proteins present in the membrane of different olfactory receptor cells.

How do elephants
respond to stimuli?
When animals receive a stimulus, or a nerve
signal, the signal is sent to their brain. The brain
interprets the signal. It then sends messages
telling the body how to respond. Elephants
receive information through
hearing, and touch.
Elephants use their trunks to make loud
calls to signal the other elephants of
danger in their environment. Usually, the
older elephants will form a circle around
the younger elephants to protect them.

Most elephants form family
groups. The oldest elephant

which way they should go.
