Tetanus is very rare in US; the average of only 30 cases are reported each year and all the cases that are involve people who have never received a tetanus shot. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended that either tetanus and diphtheria toxoids vaccine or T-dap to be used for the decennial Td booster.
