Explanation of Solution
The chief functions of the large intestine are the absorption of water and the elimination of solid waste. However, moderate quantities of vitamin K and vitamin B complex are manufactured by bacteria present in the large intestine.
No digestions take place in the large intestine. The absorption of water makes the chyme more solid, and it is now called feces. Feces move through the peristaltic movement towards the rectum where it is stored before its elimination. Stretched walls of the rectum cause the anal sphincter to open to pass out the feces.
In the large intestine, no digestion but only absorption of water takes place. The bacteria present in the large intestine helps in the production of vitamin K and vitamin B complex that is also absorbed by the large intestine.
