Chapter 29, Problem 9RQ
Summary Introduction

To trace:

A pathway of a phosphorous molecule from a phosphate-rich rock into a carnivore.

Introduction:

Phosphorous is the key component of biological molecules such as nucleic acids and the phospholipids of the cell membrane. It is also found in the teeth and bones of vertebrates. The phosphorous cycle describes the pathway taken by phosphorous from its primary reservoir in rocks to the abiotic and biotic components, and then back to the reservoirs. In the phosphorous cycle, almost all phosphorous is bound to oxygen and form phosphate.

We have seen that energy is essential for life on earth. All organisms need energy to maintain their cellular processes. There are two basic ways of generating energy de novo, at the base of food webs. Describe the two primary ways that autotrophic organisms generate energy, including the original source of energy and the primary organisms that carry out each process.
explain the nitrogen cycle process
On a piece of paper draw the nitrogen and the carbon cycle for a terrestrial ecosystem. The cycles should show the detail of the transformation of the element, where the transformation occurs, as well as biotic and abiotic components. Now, starting with the animal, write out your description of the nitrogen cycle then describe the carbon cycle.
