Chapter 29, Problem 5MC
Summary Introduction

Introduction:

Carbon is an essential component which is required by the entire living organism in an ecosystem. Carbon circulates throughout the food chain with the help of biogeochemical cycle. The carbon cycle describes the pathway that carbon transforms from one form to another through various trophic levels in the ecosystem. Different forms of carbon are stored in different reservoirs in the environment from which carbon is circulated in the ecosystem. Fossil fuels are also the important reservoir of carbon and their burning produce harmful effects on the environment.

The best long-term solution to the greenhouse gas problem is a.Develop a machine which absorbs carbon dioxide and releases oxygen, similar to what plants do, but better. b.Generating enough smoke in the atmosphere, so that less sunlight penetrates to the earth's surface. c.Using powerful rockets, shift the earth in its orbit slightly, so that it is farther from the sun. d.Using only clean sources of energy.
The recent increase in atmospheric CO2 concentration is mainly a result of an increase in a. plant growth. b. the absorption of heat radiating from Earth. c. the burning of fossil fuels and wood. d. cellular respiration by the increasing human population.
