What is a transform boundary?
The transform boundary.
Answer to Problem 18RQ
Like the divergent and the convergent plate boundaries, the transform plate boundaries neither pulls apart nor collide to each other but they slide to each other. It is found in ocean basins.
Explanation of Solution
In ocean basins the type of plate boundaries which slides to each other neither pull apart nor collide to each other just like the divergent (this occurs due t the spreading centres of two plates) and the convergent (this occur due to the collision between two plates to each other) plate boundaries are known as the transform plate boundaries.
The creation or the destruction of the lithosphere takes place in the absence of tensional or compressive stress. However, enormous energy released due to relative motion of two plates cause earthquake. The perfect example for the transform plate boundary is the San Andreas fault in California.
Conclusion:
Therefore, like the divergent and the convergent plate boundaries, the transform plate boundaries neither pulls apart nor collide to each other but they slide to each other. It is found in ocean basins.
