Concept explainers
The rift and its example.
Answer to Problem 14RQ
A large down dropped valley is known as the rift and the example for it is the Great Rift Valley.
Explanation of Solution
When the hot and molten magma rises beneath the continental crust then a tensional stress is produced in the crust due to that magma. That stress generated due to magma is known as upwarming. Finally the produced gaps in the crust and the large slabs of the rocks slide and sink down into these gaps. Then the generated large down dropped valley is known as the rift or commonly called as rift valley. The perfect example for the rift valley is the Great Rift Valley which is situated in East Africa and formed due to such similar manner.
Conclusion:
Therefore, a large down dropped valley is known as the rift and the example for it is the Great Rift Valley.
