Concept introduction: A base analogue is a chemical which that has a similar structure of either a purine or a pyrimidine is called a base analogue. 5-Bromouracil (5BU) is the base analogue that has a similar structure to that of the pyrimidine thymine. Therefore, this structure replaces or substitutes thymine present in a DNA structure and pairs it with adenine. The enol form of 5-Bromouracil causes the tautomeric shift of 5-Bromouracil. This enol form pairs with the guanine base, rather than binding to the adenine.
