Explanation of Solution

Introduction:

For the demonstration of the light’s wave like behavior, an experiment called the double slit experiment was conducted which depicts both wave and particle characteristics of light and matter. The phenomenon of bending of the light when it encounters some obstacles along its path is known as diffraction of light.

From the experiment, the wave nature of the light was demonstrated with the help of interference pattern which consists of bright and dark fringes. Actual wavelength was measured easily with the help of double slit interference pattern which cannot be done by the diffraction of light. So, the observation of double-slit interference pattern for the wave theory of light was more promising than the observation of diffraction.

Conclusion:

Hence, the observation of double-slit interference pattern was more convincing for the wave theory of light than diffraction.
