Question
Chapter 24, Problem 1CYU
Summary Introduction
To review:
Effects on glomerular filtration due to the following scenarios:
Presence of excess protein in the blood, which increases the colloid osmotic pressure
Low arterial blood pressure (hypotension)
High arterial blood pressure (hypertension)
Introduction:
The amount of filtrate formed by both kidneys in 1 minute is termed as the glomerular filtration rate. The huge amount of filtrate is reabsorbed by the tubules and therefore, only 1% of it is excreted in the form of urine. The three factors that drive the filtration of plasma are glomerular hydrostatic pressure (GHP), glomerular colloid osmotic pressure (GCOP), and capsular hydrostatic pressure (CHP).
