Concept explainers
Introduction:
The roots are mostly the first structure to form from seed. It involves itself in the absorption of minerals and water from the soil for transportation to the other parts of plants. The structure of the root is composed of a root cap that has parenchyma cells for the protection of root tissue during its growth. The root cap hasmany layers like the epidermal layer and cortex. It is made of ground tissuesand found between the epidermis and vascular tissue of the root. The inner boundary of the cortex is the endodermis; this is a part of the cell wall and consists of a waterproof strip termed as a Casparian strip. The next layer of the root cap is pericycle found next to the epidermis towards the center of the root, this tissue involves in the formation of lateral roots.
Answer to Problem 6STP
Correct answer:
The correct answer is option (B).
Explanation of Solution
Explanation/justification for the correct answer:
Option (B) The part of the root in 2 is the primary meristem. It is the zone of cell division. It is also termed as the elongation zone of roots and is involved in the increase of the length of the root. So, the correct answer is option (D).
Explanation for incorrect answer:
Option (A)The part of the root represented in this is the root cap. It is involved in the protection of root tissue during its growth. So, this is an incorrect option.
Option (C)The part of the root represented in this is the vascular cylinder. It is involved in the transportation of food, water, and other substance throughout the plant. So, this is an incorrect answer.
Option (D) The part of the root represented in this is the epidermis. It is the dermal part of the roots that protect it from environmental stress and pathogen. So, this is an incorrect answer.
