Concept explainers
To write:
The difference between pistil and stamen.
Introduction:
Flower is the most beautiful part of a plant. The colours, shapes, and sizes of flowers are determined by the genetic makeup of each species. Flowers can vary in structure and form from species to species. A flower has many organs. Some organs provide support and protection, whereas others can be involved directly in the reproduction process.
Explanation of Solution
In general, flowers have four organs. They are sepals, stamens, petals, and pistils. The difference between pistil and stamen are given below.
Pistil | Stamen |
Pistil is the female reproductive structure of a flower. | Stamen is the male reproductive structure of a flower. |
It comprises of three parts- the style, stigma, and ovary. | It comprises of two parts- the filament and anther. |
It produces gametophyte that develops into egg. | It produces sporophyte that forms pollen grain. |
Thus, the pistil and the stamen can be differentiated according to their reproductive structure and composition.
