Concept explainers
Introduction:
There are several organs found in a flower. Some parts involve in providing protection or support to the flower and others are involved in the reproduction process. Sepal, petal, stamen, and pistils are the four parts of flowers. The sepal is the part that looks like small leaves involved in the protection of flower buds. The petal is the organs that have different colors involved in attracting the pollinator by providing a landing platform to them. The sepal and petalattached to the flower stalk are termed as peduncle. The stamen is the male reproductive part and is divided into filament and anther. The filament supports the anther, and inside the anther, the cells carry out meiosis and mitotic cell division to form the pollen grains. And lastly, the pistil is the female reproductive part that is found in the center of the flower. It is divided into stigma, style, and ovary. In the stigma, the pollination takes place and the style adjoins the stigma to the ovary that contains ovules.
Answer to Problem 2STP
Correct answer:
The correct answer is option (B).
Explanation of Solution
Explanation/justification for the correct answer:
Option (B) In the given picture, part 2 is represented by the stamen. It is the male reproductive part and is divided into filament and anther parts. The filament supports the anther, and inside the anther, the cells carried out meiosis and mitotic cell division to form the pollen grains. So, the correct answer is option (B).
Explanation for incorrect answer:
Option (A)In the picture, part 1 represents the pistil. The female reproductive part that is found in the center of the flower. It is divided into stigma, style, and ovary. In the stigma, pollination takes place, the style adjoins the stigma to the ovary that contains ovules. So, this is an incorrect option.
Option (C) In the picture, part 3 represents the petal. It is the organs that have different colors involve in attracting the pollinator by providing a landing platform to them. So, this is an incorrect answer.
Option (D)In the picture, part 4 represents the ovule inside the ovary. So, this is an incorrect answer.
