Concept explainers
Introduction :
Flower is the most beautiful part of a plant. The colours, shapes, and sizes of flowers are determined by the genetic makeup of each species. Flowers can vary in structure and form from species to species. A flower has many organs. Some organs provide support and protection, whereas others can be involved directly in the reproduction process. In general, flowers have four organs. They are sepals, stamens, petals, and pistils.
Answer to Problem 16A
Correct answer :
The correct answer is option (A) stamen.
Explanation of Solution
Explanation/justification for the correct answer :
Option (A) stamen. Stamen is the male reproductive structure of a flower. It comprises of two parts- the filament and anther. Inside the anther pollen grains are developed. So, the correct answer is option (A).
Explanation for incorrect answer :
Option (B) pistil. It is the female reproductive structure of a flower. It comprises of three parts namely style, stigma, and ovary. It produces gametophyte that develops into egg. So, this is an incorrect option.
