Concept explainers
To write:The name and the functions of three types of plant cell.
Introduction:Plant cell comprises a large central vacuole and a cell wall. They also possess chloroplasts. Most plant tissues are produced by three types of plant cells. They help infood storage and production, strength, stability, and support.
Explanation of Solution
There are three kinds of plant cells which are parenchyma cells, collenchyma cells, and sclerenchyma cells.
Parenchyma cells are the base of many plant structures and are capable of performing a broad variety of functions including gas exchange, transport, protection, and photosynthesis. These cells are of spherical form, and their cell walls flatten when bundled together closely.
Collenchyma cells are elongated, arising in long chains or tubes that provide space for the cells around them. It helps to sustain surrounding tissues and gives plant flexibility and also helps in repair and replacement of tissue.
Sclerenchyma cells, when they mature, lack cytoplasm and other living components but their thick, rigid cell walls remain. These cells sustain a plant, and others are used to move materials within the plant.
Thus, it concludes that these plant cells help the plant in photosynthesis, transport of food and water, repair and replacement of tissues.
