To analyze: The reason for the block in blood flow in the circulatory system due to an injury in the leg that has caused the formation of the blood clot.
Introduction:
The injury to the leg causes the formation of the blood clot. The lining of the endothelial vessel is damaged, which causes the blood to flow out and leak from the circulatory system. The deoxygenated blood flows in the vena cava and is drained into the auricles of the heart. The heart then reaches the ventricles and the blood is circulated in the capillary bed in the lungs through the pulmonary artery. The oxygenated blood circulates in the pulmonary vein and reaches the heart from where it is pumped to the various organs in the systemic circulation system.

- The abnormal narrowing of the lumen of a vein is known as _____________________.arrow_forwardFill in the table below by indicating the organ, region or vessel that the named vessel receives blood from, and the organ, region or vessel to which it delivers blood (see example for aorta and coronary arteries). If you’re doing it right, both columns will have the same answer. You will need to refer to the images in your textbook and lab models to do this. - In coronary bypass surgery, the internal thoracic artery can be used as the bypass vessel by suturing its distal end onto the obstructed coronary artery in the heart wall. Explain why using this vessel is superior to using the great saphenous vein of the leg.arrow_forwardAll the blood that passes through the aorta, except the blood that flowsinto the coronary vessels, returns to the heart through the venae cavae.(Hint: The diameter of the aorta is 26 mm, and the diameter of avena cava is 32 mm.) Explain why the resistance to blood flow in theaorta is greater than the resistance to blood flow in the venae cavae.Because the resistances are different, explain why blood flow can bethe same.arrow_forwardThe figure shows the structure of an artery and a vein. Explain how the structure of the artery is related to its function.arrow_forward

You should use the terms, arteriole, venule, capillary bed, muscular artery, elastic artery, veinarrow_forwardBalloon catheters are inserted into the femoral artery to unblock coronary vessels.
