Concept explainers
To determine:
The correct term for the given definitions.
Introduction:
Plant cells act as building blocks for plants. These cells contain chloroplast, where photosynthesis occurs. It is an important process in plants for making food, by using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide.
Explanation of Solution
Pericycle − This tissue is cylindrical and contains sclerenchyma cells that lie inside the endodermis. It lines the stems and roots vascular tissue.
Endodermis − It is the innermost layer if cells in cortex of stems, roots, and vascular bundle. It is composed of closely packed cells that contain Casparian strips.
Palisade cells − These cells are found on the leaves, just below epidermis and cuticle. They are also termed as leaf cells. They are column shaped cells that also contain chloroplast.
Transpiration − It is exhalation of water vapors from the stomata present in leaves.
Root cap − This tissue is found at the root tip of plant. This tissue is responsible for gravity perception.
Xylem − It is a vascular tissue that transports water and nutrients from the soil to leaves and stems. Xylem also provides mechanical support to plant.
Petiole − This stalk attaches leaf to the stem of the plant.
Spongy mesophyll − It is the site where gas exchange occurs during respiration and photosynthesis.
