In dry cells as well as lead storage batteries, oxidation takes place at the anode and reduction takes place at the cathode. The reactions taking place at the anode and cathode in a lead storage battery are reversible but the cathodic reaction is not reversible in a dry cell; thus, lead storage batteries are rechargeable but dry cells are not.
