Concept explainers
Suppose a manufacturer produces a computer chip and later discovers a flaw in its design. Suppose further that the manufacturer corrects the flaw in future production but decides to keep the original flaw a secret and does not recall the chips already shipped, reasoning that none of the chips already in use are being used in an application in which the flaw will have consequences. Is anyone hurt by the manufacturer’s decision? Is the manufacturer’s decision justified if no one is hurt and the decision keeps the manufacturer from loosing money and possibly having to layoff employees?

- In what ways are hardware interruptions and software runtime faults comparable?arrow_forwardImagine a world where it is impossible to move computer code from one device to another. Memory paging might become more difficult in this way. And what would happen if there wasn't any way to move programs around on a computer? The paging process in memory can be made more difficult in this way.arrow_forwardExplore the concept of Moore's Law and its implications for computer hardware development.arrow_forward
- For a processor that can decode encrypted data and system instructions, a variety of approaches have been proposed. The submitted suits will be encrypted by the processor. What are the advantages of using such a CPU? Why does this software function so well and so efficiently?arrow_forwardIn the field of computer science, what is meant by the term "price-performance ratio"? Why is it so difficult to put into practice?arrow_forwardAn interrupt from a CPU causes the processor to cease what it is doing and react to the signal received by the processor. What is the reason for pausing the operation in order to finish this task? Let's start with the process of interrupting and then go on to the process of executing. explain?arrow_forward
- A Plant Needs to be irrigated every day with 150 mL of water per day, But its owner will be leaving in a week and ask you to make a system that will supply his/her plant water when she/he is not around or even if you are not around. A completed set of kits and Components were provided (A Microprocessor, RTC, Ultrasonic Distance Sensor, Relay, Water Pump, and A water tank). Create a system that will solve the problem.Given Parameters: Water Tank; H = 0.656ftDiameter = 0. 328ftUltrasonic Distance Sensor; Maximum Distance Reading= 300cm a.) Algorithm of the Volume of the tank.b.) Flowchart of the whole Systemc.) How much water will be consumed by the plant after a week in mL?d.) How much water will remain in the Tank after a week in mL? 2. XYZ crop needs a temperature of 22°C and RH of 75% in a closed environment. To sustain the given parameters, the structure has given Components (Fan, DHT22, Relay, artificial sunlight, and Microprocessor) to solve the problem by creating a system.…arrow_forwardWhat impact does "out-of-order execution" have on a CPU's efficiency and potential vulnerabilities?arrow_forwardAfter describing the views of the user and the hardware designer on performance, compute the equation for execution time from each perspective.arrow_forward
- For a processor that can decode encrypted data and system instructions as well as execute them, various solutions have been suggested. The processor will encrypt the provided suits. Is it advantageous to use a CPU of this type? What are the system requirements for such great performance and efficiency?arrow_forwardThe technologist's notion of Moore's Law is that the number of transistors per chip doubles approximately every 18 months. In the 1990s, Moore's Law started to be described as the doubling of microprocessor power every 18 months. Given this new variation of Moore’s Law, answer the following: After successfully completing your computer organization and architecture class, you have a brilliant idea for a new chip design that would make a processor six times faster than the fastest ones on the market today. Unfortunately, it will take you four and a half years to save the money, create the prototype, and build a finished product. If Moore’s Law holds, should you spend your money developing and producing your chip or invest in some other venture?arrow_forwardThe flaws that were found in the Whetstone, Dhrystone, and Linpack tests are going to be addressed by the SPEC CPU benchmarks.arrow_forward
