Tracer dye is introduced to sand and gravel aquifer in a gravel pit. The dye appears 28.5 hours 3.8 km away from where the dye was introduced. What is the groundwater flow velocity?
True or False
1. If a well is drilled into a confined aquifer, the water can rise above its level in the aquifer because of the extra hydrostatic (fluid) pressure; which is called an artesian system. The water in an artesian system will rise all the way to the ground surface.
2. In areas suffered from surface subsidence, solutions such as pumping water back underground are likely to work.
A non-artesian well is drilled in an aquifer with a fairly horizontal water table. The well (φ = 25 cm) has a discharge of 408 m3 /hr, creating a 250 m wide cone of depression. If the height/depth of the water table is 60 m and the aquifer permeability is 8 m/day, determine the drawdown. Include also diagram or drawing.
