Given that

The molecular formula for telluric acid is H6TeO6

Oxidation state of O is -2 and H is +1. Let x be the oxidation state of Te then

  6(+1)+x+6(2)=06+x12=0x=+6

The tellurium hexafluoride can be prepared by the reaction of elemental tellurium with the fluorine gas. The pH is defined as the measure of acidity or alkalinity of the solution, hydrogen ion concentration. When the pH value is less than 7 then it is acidic and the pH value is greater than 7 then it is base or alkaline solution.

Given data is

Density of Te=6.24g/cm3

Volume of Te=0.545cm3

  =0.1619cm3

Mass of Te=density×volume

  =6.24g/cm2×0.1619cm3Mass ofTe=1.01g

Moles of Te=massatomicmass

  =1.01g127.6g/molMolesofTe=0.00791mol

Also given that

Volume of F2=2.34L

Pressure of F2=1.06atm

Temperature of F2=25C=298k

  MolesofF2,n=PVRT=(1.06atm)(2.34L)(0.0821Latm/molK)(298k)MolesofF2,n=0.101mol

According to the stoichiometric equation one mole Te reacts with 3 moles of F2

  0.00791 a mole of Te reacts with 0.02373mol

  F2 . But there are 0.01 moles of F2 . Hence Te is the limiting reactant.

Number of moles TeF6 formed = moles of Te= 0.00791mol

Number of moles Te(OH)6=molesvolumeinliters

  =0.00791mol0.115L

Number of moles =0.06878M

  Te(OH)6 is the weak acid and it has pKa1=7.68andpKa2=11.29

Molarity of HF = 0.06878 M

HF has Ka=7.2×104 so HF is strong acid than Te(OH)6 acid. Hence the proton coming from HF only and the dissociation of Te(OH)6 is suppressed by HF.

  [H3O+]=Ka(HF)×molarityofHF=7.2×104×0.06878M[H3O+]=7.04×103M

  pH=log[7.04×103]pH=2.1526

Thus, the pH of the solution of Te(OH)6 formed by dissolving the isolated TeF6(g) in 115 mL solution is pH=2.1526.
