Question
Chapter 16.1, Problem 3R
Summary Introduction
To review:
The effect of the action of the sigma factor and recognition sequences on the expression of classes of genes.
Introduction:
The sigma factors are protein subunits of the enzyme ribonucleic acid (RNA) polymerase required for the initiation of the transcription process. Recognition sequences help to initiate the process of transcription by binding the RNA polymerase with the promoter. Gene expression of certain genes is controlled by the sigma factors who share recognition sequences or recognition sites in the promoters.
