Introduction:

Smell, taste, sight, hearing, and equilibrium are types of special senses. General sensory receptors are widely distributed over the body but special sensory receptors are restricted and confined to the head region. Vision is provided by the eyes, hearing and maintaining balance are functions of the ears, olfaction is done by means of the nose, and taste is perceived by the tongue.
