Explanation of Solution
Given reactions:
C(s,graphite)+O2(g)→CO2(g),ΔH=−394kJC(s,diamond)+O2(g)→CO2(g),ΔH=−396kJ
Subtracting the first equation from the second, we get
C(s,diamond)+O2(g)+CO2(g)→C(s,graphite)+O2(g)+CO2(g),ΔH=−396+394kJC(s,diamond)→C(s,graphite),ΔH=−2kJ
