To determine whether the given events are mutually exclusive or not mutually exclusive.
Answer to Problem 1CCYP
Mutually exclusive.
Explanation of Solution
Given information :
Getting a sum of 6 or 7 when two dice are rolled.
Two events can be mutually exclusive if there is no common outcome of the both events. Whereas if there is any common outcome then the events becomes not mutually exclusive events.
Outcomes when sum is 6 are (1, 5), (2, 4), (3,3), (4,2),(5,1)
Outcomes when sum is 7 are (1, 6),(6, 1),(2, 5),(5, 2),(3, 4),(4, 3)
Here when two dice are rolled, there shall be no common outcomes for the given situation.
Hence the given events are mutually exclusive.
