Given info:

Mass of bullet M=25g=0.025kg .

Mass of block m=0.6kg .

Spring constant of block k=7.7×103N/m .

Amplitude A=0.215m .

Formula used:

Conservation of energy:

  E = 12×k×A2 = 12×(m + M)×vmax2

Here,

  k is spring constant,

  A is amplitude of spring,

  vmax is maximum velocity.

Conservation of momentum;

  Pbefore = PafterP = m ×v

Here,

  m is the mass,

  v is the velocity.

Calculation:

When collision take place, the energy is conserved. vmax is the combined velocity of the system. The value of combined velocity is determined from the following formula.

  vmax2 = k×A2m + M = 7.7×103×(0.215)20.6 + 0.025 = 569.49 m/svmax = 23.86 m/s

This is the combined speed of the system after the collision. So, linear momentum is conserved in collision.
