Question
Chapter 10.14, Problem 21P
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The class of compound for the given absorption band has to be given.
Concept Introduction:
IR spectroscopy is concerned with the study of absorption of infrared radiation, which causes vibrational transition in the molecule.
IR frequency (cm-1): It is the number of wave crests that pass by a given point in one second frequency has units of hertz (Hz).
Wavelength: I t identified the distance from any point on one wave to the corresponding point on the next wave, or its wavelength is generally measured in nanometers (1 nm=10-9 m).

A nitrogen-containing compound shows no absorption band at ~3400 cm-1 and no absorption bands between ~1700 cm-1 and ~1600 cm-1 or between 2260 cm-1 and 2220 cm-1. What class of compound is it?
Identify and explain the IR absorption characteristics of the unknown C6H14O in the 1400 to 4000 cm-1 range. Then identify the class of the unknown compound C6H14O.
At the broad peak I believe it is either an alcohol & phenol or an amine. For the second peak i think it is an alkane.
A ketone possesses an absorption band with peak centered around 1710 cm-1, from the information deduce a value for the force constant of the C=O double bond.
