Chapter 10, Problem 9P
A grindstone in the shape of a solid disk with diameter 0.520 m and a mass of 50.0 kg is rotating at 850 rev/min. You press an axe against the rim with a normal force of 160 N (see Figure 10.45), and the grindstone comes to rest in 7.50 s. Find the coefficient of kinetic friction between the axe and the grindstone. There is negligible friction in the bearings.

A bicycle has wheels with a diameter of 0.650 m. It accelerates uniformly and the rate of rotation of its wheels increases from 181 rpm to 275 rpm in a time of 16.9 s. Find the linear acceleration of the bicycle.
A child is riding their bicycle. The rear wheel is spinning at an angular velocity of 225.05 rpm and they apply the brakes and stop in 2.332 s. How many revolutions did the wheel go through before it stopped?
The wheels, axle, and handles of a wheelbarrow weigh W = 57 N. The load chamber and its contents weigh W₁ = 563 N. The drawing
shows these two forces in two different wheelbarrow designs. To support the wheelbarrow in equilibrium, the man's hands apply a
force to the handles that is directed vertically upward. Consider a rotational axis at the point where the tire contacts the ground,
directed perpendicular to the plane of the paper. Find the magnitude of the man's force for both designs.
