Concept explainers
A four-stage boiler feed pump has suction and discharge lines of 10 cm and 7.5 cm inside diameter. At 3500 rpm, the pump is rated at 0.025 m3/s against a head of 125 m while handling water at 115°C. The inlet pressure gage, located 50 cm below the impeller centerline, reads 150 kPa. The pump is to be factory certified by tests at the same flow rate, head rise, and speed, but using water at 27°C. Calculate the NPSHA at the pump inlet in the field installation. Evaluate the suction head that must be used in the factory test to duplicate field suction conditions.

- In a medical water treatment station, there is a centrifugal pump. The pump delivers a flow rate of 0.003 m3/s. The pump radius is 0.3 m. The water enters axially and leaves the impeller relative to radial blades at the exit. Theoretically using Euler turbomachine equation, what should be the rotation speed for the pump to develop a head of 9 mH2O? Give your answer in rotation per minutė (rpm).arrow_forwardThe Allis-Chalmers D30LR centrifugal compressor delivers33,000 ft3/min of SO2 with a pressure change from 14.0 to18.0 lbf/in2 absolute using an 800-hp motor at 3550 r/min.What is the overall efficiency? What will the flow rate andDp be at 3000 r/min? Estimate the diameter of the impeller.arrow_forwardA two stage centrifugal pump is designed to discharge water at a total head of 70 m with an overallefficiency of 0.76. The pump runs at 2331.6 rpm. The actual head developed (per stage) is 65% ofthe theoretical head. The flow at the inlet is pure radial. The impeller at the exit has a diameter of D2=0.219m and a width b2=0.0216m .The outlet blade angle is ?= 28°. Determine:1. The flow rate of the pump.2. The output power of the two stage centrifugal pump. Take ρ= 1000kg/m^3g=9.81 m^2/sarrow_forward
