Concept introduction:

The dehydration of alcohol leads to the formation of the alkene. This dehydration can be done acid-catalyzed mechanism. In this mechanism first step is the abstraction of a proton by the hydroxide group. The second step is the removal of water to give an intermediate “carbocation”. The third step is the generation of an alkene by the removal of β- hydrogen from the intermediate.
